The Hinsdale County Historical Society (thanks to Shawna Shidler and Grant Houston) wrote a grant to purchase the Rose Lime Kiln property above Capitol City. We have received notice of grant award! This grant will be matched with funds from the Bureau of Land Management (thanks, Liz Francisco!) to purchase the private property as a heritage tourism site. The Rose Lime Kiln and Henson Creek Chimney is surrounded by BLM land and plans will be made for further interpretation and stabilization on this iconic site. Yay!! Another legacy project for generations to come :)
Special thanks to Tim Stroh, Korbin Pugh, and Michael Owen at the State Historic Fund for your work in our region!

Lake City is number 5 on this list of "alternative" mountain towns to visit this winter.
"Millions of visitors and residents hit the slopes in Colorado throughout the #winter, but if you're looking for a break from #ski towns this season, or just want to discover somewhere new, we rounded up a dozen alternative options. Whether they are nestled at the base of a mountain or right in them, these are some of our favorite places to get away from it all this winter."
