Lake City Memoirs - A Community Project
From natives, to full or part-time residents, to those who have passed
through and perhaps returned again and again – you are an integral part
of the history, traditions, and continuing memories of Lake City and
Hinsdale County. And, we respectfully request your help.
By gathering as many stories, photographs, and mementos that celebrate
this area from 1874 and before to here and now, the Hinsdale County
Historical Society and Lake City DIRT are teaming up to preserve the
richness that has shaped this secret part of the vast San Juan. Their goals
include establishing a web presence, using collected materials to celebrate
the history of Lake City through the lives of those who love it, and
publishing a picture and history-laden coffee table book that will be both
timeless and timely.
Please contribute your special bits of history – pictures, old letters and
postcards, pioneer writings, and generational tales – and extend the ties of
this unique community to all those who will be captivated by this collective
sharing of the Lake City-Hinsdale experience.
How it will come together
Let your story become a permanent part of Lake City’s history and
traditions. Send your “memories,” in the form of photographs, stories,
postcards and other mementos, to Lake City DIRT, and they could be
included in the first book of its kind, Lake City Memoirs.
Lake City DIRT and HCHS will review all submissions that pertain to early-to-
present day Lake City and Hinsdale County. All material submitted will be
shared on the Lake City DIRT and HCHS website, and select submissions will
be featured in Lake City Memoirs – a hard cover, coffee table book set to
be presented next year.
Material for the 2010 edition of Lake City Memoirs will be collected from
September 1, 2009 through April 1, 2010. Material received after the April
1st deadline will be considered for future publications.
All material submitted will be edited when necessary to conform to DIRT
style requirements, and spelling and grammar will be corrected accordingly.
All materials submitted, including but not limited to photographs, letters,
essays, postcards, diary excerpts, etc., must be copyright free, will become
the property of Lake City DIRT and the Hinsdale County Historical Society,
and will be available for use in any promotional or marketing project
pertaining to Lake City and Hinsdale County, unless otherwise noted by
Lake City DIRT or the Hinsdale County Historical Society.
How to submit your stories
You can submit your stories in various ways. If you are having trouble with
any of the suggested formats please contact LC DIRT for alternatives
solutions, 970-944-3478 or ed@lakecitydirt.com.
Preferred formats - If possible digital formats are preferred, either via
burned on CD/DVD, online submission (email or submission from on LC
DIRT website) or via FTP. Stories submitted as a text file in Word doc (.
doc) or general text formats.
ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST INCLUDE FULL NAME AND CONTACT
INFORMATION (ADDRESS, PHONE & EMAIL) OF PARTICIPANT.
STORIES CANNOT BE USED UNLESS THIS INFORMATION AND
AUTHORIZATION FORM IS SUPPLIED.
Stories submission can submitted via:
A) Email to memoirs@lakecitydirt.com. Either type directly into email or
attach a Word doc (.doc format) or as a text file.
B) Submit via an FTP link available on www.lakecitydirt.com, click on LC
Memoirs icon.
C) Hard copies (hand written) files can be sent to LC DIRT, POB 973, Lake
City, CO 81235
Images should be submitted as a minimum 300 dpi JPG, TIFF or
PSD files. Please scan photos, letters, postcards or any other items at a
minimum of 300 dpi. (Files may be too large to send via email - consider
either sending a disk or using FTP to send files 5 megs or
larger)
A) Email to memoirs@lakecitydirt.com. If the files are large or you have
more than one please compress files with WinZip, Stuffit or some other
compressing software.
B) Submit via an FTP link available on www.lakecitydirt.com, click on LC
Memoirs icon.

Please include a self address envelope if you would like your items
returned (items will be returned within 90 days of receiving).
